south of the livestock area.
**all goat exhibitors must submit
a pen request form, found on page 13.
 1. All exhibitors are required to read and abide by the Rules on
pages 6-11.
 2. Exhibits in this department must be in the possession of the
exhibitor by May 1st of the current year.
 3. A health check will take place for all goats on Sunday between
12:00 and 3:00 pm.
 4. Entry/class check-in for all YOUTH exhibitors will be on
Sunday between 4:30 and 9:00 pm. Entry/class check-in for
OPEN class exhibitors will be from Sunday at 4:30 pm until
Tuesday at 9:00 pm. Registration papers must be shown
at that time for the classes in which they are required.
 5. All goats must be registered, and will be required to show the
certificate of registry.
 6. Exhibitor’s herd shall consist of 3 animals owned by the exhibitor.
 7. All Goats must show in an individual class to show in the group
classes.
 8. No more than 2 entries by one exhibitor in any 1 class.
 9. All Showmanship and Bred and Owned class animals must be
pre-entered to show.
10. Best BredandOwnedentries in classes 250, 440, 665: Exhibitor
or immediate family must be named on the registration papers
as Breeder and Owner, and the dam must have been owned
by the exhibitor (or immediate family) at the time of breeding.
11. M.D.A. RULEeffectiveasof 2006All goatsmovedwithinMichigan
shall be identifiedwithofficial USDAscrapieprogram identification
prior to movement off the farm. Contact the United States of
Agriculture (USDA) at (517) 324-5294 for ear tags (if needed).
  *The USDA tag is
mandatory
for
all
unregistered goats and/or
market
goats. The scrapie tag no. may be tattooed in the ear,
flank, or tail web (if tattooed, the tag must be kept, the end of
the tag must be cut off so it can't be reused, and the tag must
accompany the goat when it is moved).
  *Goats may use electronic I.D. (microchips). Breed association
registration papers must accompany the goat when moved and
a microchip reader must be available to read the chip.
  *Any (APHIS approved) registered goat may use the breed
association registry tattoo as ID in lieu of a scrapie tag number.
Registration papers must accompany the goat when it's moved.
Producers/owners (of all goats) are required to provide a scrapie
program Change of Ownership form for goats when there is a
transfer of ownership. This form must accompany the animal
to its new location, ie: from seller to buyer (including when sold
through the fair livestock auction, but not going to slaughter).
12. Asupremechampionwill beselected if there isagrandchampion
and reserve champion judged in at least three breeds.
13. Straw or sawdust shall be used as bedding for all animals.
Bedding will be changed by all exhibitors Wednesday night
between 10:00 pm and 12:00 pm or Thursday morning before
8:30am.All exhibitorsmay change the bedding for their animals
more often if they desire.
14. Animals that are not entered in the youth or open show are not
allowed in the barn. The exception to this rule is kids under 8
weeks old that are nursing their dams.
15. Goats may be exercised in the goat barn area - exhibitor must
have permission from a goat superintendent.
16. Proper attire is required of all exhibitors - seeGeneral Livestock
Rules. No sandals, flip-flops, crocs, etc. will be allowed in the
show ring or the auction ring.
17. Dairy goats must be dehorned. Pygmy and Boer goats may be
hornedor dehorned.Angorasmust behorned. Nobucksallowed.
18. Goat barn setup is Thursday at 6:00 pm.
19. No dogs allowed in the barn.
20. There will be a barnmeeting at 4:30 pmSunday, opening night,
for all exhibitors - all are expected to attend.
21. A second barn meeting will be held on Saturday, the last day
of the fair, followed by the goat barn auction. Time to be set at
the first meeting on Sunday.
22. The Open Goat Show will start Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Order
of showing to be determined by the Superintendents on the
day of the show.
23. There is NO MANDATORY MILK OUT prior to show.
Milk out is left to the exhibitor’s discretion.
24. Exhibitors MUST provide the goat superintendents with
photocopies of either registration papers, scrapie premise
number or Owner Statement-Change of Ownership form
(whichever is applicable to the animal) upon check-in on
Sunday for EACH animal entered in the Shiawassee County Fair.
25. Bracing of goats is not permitted unless using ADGA, NPGA
and ABGA approved methods.
**Note : Any class in this department with an * in front of it requires
a class fee of $2.00. Please enclose the total with your entry form.
