All livestock trailers left on the fair grounds
must be parked in the designated area below the
hill, south of the livestock area.
SHEEP EXHIBITION REGULATIONS
1. All exhibitors are responsible to read and abide by the rules on
pages 6-11.
2. No sheep are eligible to show unless exhibitor had the sheep
in his or her possession since May 1, of the current year.
3. 2007 M.D.A. RULES: All sheep moved within Michigan shall
be identified with official USDA scrapie program identification
tags or tattoos prior to movement off the farm. (See page 11)
- SHEEP AND GOATS for clarification.) Contact the United
States of Agriculture (USDA) at (517) 324-5290 for ear tags.
Do not remove tags prior to weigh-in or showing. It is illegal to
remove official USDA individual animal identification (including
when animal is sold through the fair livestock auction but not
going to slaughter).
4. An exhibitor may make no more than two entries in each
individual class. When entering (2) individuals, write the class
2 times on the entry form.
5. All Showmanship and Bred and Owned (lamb from own
flock) animals must be pre-entered to show.
6. All Sheep shown in group classes must be shown in individual
classes.
7. A flock is made up of one (1) Ram and two (2) Ewes.
8. A pen of four lambs is any combination of four lambs. Both
sexes represented.
9. Get of sire is four sheep sired by the same ram. Papers will be
checked.
10. Market lambs shall be ewes or wethers. Entries in the market
lamb class cannot be exhibited in breeding classes.
11. Market Lambs may be purchased, but must be owned by the
exhibitor, in exhibitor’s possession and on feed by May 1st.
12. Only 1st, and 2nd, and 3rd Place Individuals of each class may
be sold separately. All other shall be sold in pens of two.
13. Each exhibitor may have only one (1) Pen of Market Lambs
which must consist of two (2) lambs as of May 1st of the project
year. The individual Market Lamb (class #335) entry must come
from the pen of two and
must be identified by the exhibitor
at weigh-in.
Both individual and pen classes must be entered.
14. At weigh in, market lambs must weigh at least 95 lbs. and not
more than 160 lbs. Lambs under minimum weight may not
show in the market class but may show in showmanship, if
entered. Underweight lambsmay not sell in the auction. Market
lambs over maximum weight may show in the market class
but cannot be Champion or Reserve. Overweight lambs may
sell at auction at the specified maximum (not actual) weight.
15. All Sale animals must be maintained through closing day of fair.
16. All lambs to be slick sheared prior to weigh-in (no excess wool).
17. Exhibitor must keep all 4 feet of the sheep on the ground at all
times in the show ring.
18. Any market lamb having ear tags deemed not necessary for
exhibiting at the Shiawassee County Fair may be removed
at the time of weigh-in, but after they have made qualifying
weights.
19. Market lambs winning Grand Champion Individuals or Pens,
and/or Reserve Grand Champion Individuals or pens can not
compete in the Bred and Owned (from own flock) class.
20. Best market lamb from own flock is an animal born from a
ewe owned by the exhibitor's immediate family (see page 8 for
definition) and raised by the exhibitor as their project. These
animals must be verified, on the official form (page 13) with
the club leader prior to entering them. If they are not verified
and entered, they cannot show as homegrown.
21. Proper attire is required of all exhibitors (see General Rules).
No sandals, flip-flops, crocs, etc. will be allowed in the show
ring or the auction ring.
22. All discrepancies in weights must be declared before leaving
the scale area. NO re-weights will be allowed AFTER leaving
the scale area.
NOTE: Any class in this department with an * in front of it requires
a class fee of $1.00. Please enclose the total with your entry form.
