pages 6-11.

All market hogs
will be ear tagged at the Fair, prior to the sale,
with official, approved tags.
 3. All clipped hogs must have a measurable 1/2 inch of hair over
the entire body, including the underline. Ears and tails
only
may be clipped shorter. *Clipped hogs with less than 1/2 inch
of hair will be subject to disqualification from the Market Show
and Sale. All hogs will be checked prior toentering the show ring.
*Hogs going to the packer with less than 1/2 inch of hair must
be hand processed. A significant penalty is imposed on the
sale price of these animals, causing an extra expense for the
buyer. This is an unfortunate situation that we are attempting
to eliminate in order to be as fair as possible to our buyers.
 4. Market hogs may be purchased, but must be owned by the
exhibitor, in the exhibitor's possession and on feed by May 1st.
 5. Swine exhibitors must provide own feed troughs.
 6. Feed must be kept in wooden, plastic or metal boxes.
 7. All Market Hogs will be weighed individually upon arrival to
qualify for show and sale (Final weight). Hogs will be divided into
classes for judging by weight. Ear tags deemed not necessary
for exhibiting at the Shiawassee County Fair may be removed
at weigh-in, but after they have made qualifying weights.
 8. Each exhibitor may have only ONE entry of one or two market
hogs which must be in possession by May 1st of the project year.
If two hogs are brought, both hogs will be shown as an individual.
Exhibitors can show one gilt and one barrow, or two barrows, or
two gilts.
9. Only 1st place individual from each class may be sold
separately. All other hogs will be sold as a pen of two.
10. Each pig must weigh between a minimum of 220 lbs.
and a maximum of 270 lbs. To help prevent the spread
of Swine diseases,
ALL PIGS THAT UNLOAD AT THE
FAIRMUSTSTAY.
Pigs that weighunder 220or over 270
may be exhibited in Showmanship
only,
if entered, and
will then be trucked to one of the following destinations,
by noon on Monday. Every effort will be made to give
two options to exhibitors with under/over weight hogs:
1) to send it to a predetermined processor or 2) to send
it to a predetermined open market for sale. As this is a
terminal show, the animals must go to market, or go to
be processed at one of the sites to be determined by the
Swine Department. Checks in payment for these hogs
only will be made out to the exhibitor and sent directly
to their home.
PLEASENOTE:
It is very important that pigs beweighed
just before the fair toavoidhavingunderweight pigs come
onto the grounds as they will sell at a large discount on
the open market.

pre-entered to show.

14. The Swine Barn will be closed to the general public during all
swine shows.
15. When hogs are showing, the area around the Clerk's table
and the entry into the show ring are to be used ONLY by
Superintendents and ring attendants. This will allow access to
the ring for exhibitors and promote a smoothly run show.

the break of the individual show. The feeding times will
be announced by the Swine Superintendent the day of
the show.
