17. Maleanimalsthathavenotbeencastratedwillnotbepermittedinshowmanship
classes. Please refer to individual department rules.
18. The first and second place animal in each class may be eligible to compete
for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. This decision is up to the Supt.
and/or the judge of this species. When there is no competition for Grand
Champion and Reserve Champion, the making of these awards shall be left
to the discretion of the judge.
19. Eachexhibitorshallassumeallriskinexhibitinghis/heranimal. TheShiawassee
County Agricultural Society shall not assume responsibility for sickness,
accident, or losses.
20. Once an animal for exhibit is checked in, weighed, penned, and/or stalled
and an injury or death occurs, another animal cannot be substituted.
21. In order to stimulate interest in maintaining clean and attractive exhibits,
premiums shall be offered to groups for keeping animal exhibits and their
surroundings in the cleanest and most attractive condition throughout the
week of fair. Premiums offered in all classes are on a group basis. This section
is found in Department 72, page 26- The Herdsmanship Special.
22. Class fees for open and youth are listed in each individual section. Class fees
are for all classes paying a premium; this includes group classes.
23. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rule Development rules
pertaining to the control of diseases among animals applies to all animals
exhibited. Health requirements for all animals and the Revised rules from the
Michigan Department of Agriculture, can be found at their website:

24. All species must meet acceptable body score conditions based on State
and National guidelines for that said species.
25. Violationof anyof theabovestatedrules(General&Livestock/Animal),before
or during the fair may result in:
A.
Banning the exhibitor and animal from the fair.
B.
The exhibitor and animal may be sent home from the fair and penalized
the amount of their premiums.
C.
Banning the exhibitor from showing at future fairs (time period to be
determined by the Board of Directors).
26. The Exhibitor is considered the owner of all market animals
until
their animal
has been shipped from the Shiawassee Fairgrounds.
SHIAWASSEE COUNTY FAIR
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
1.
Animals with clinical signs of infectious, contagious, or toxicological disease
shall be removed from the fair.
2.
Animals entering the fair for exhibition must be free of ringworm, warts, lice,
and mange mites.
3.
Anyanimalenteringthefair,orduringexhibition,suspectedof carryingclinical
sign of an infectious, contagious, or toxicological disease is to be reported
to the barn superintendent, and thereafter to the Fair Veterinarian. The Fair
Veterinarian shall have sole authority to determine course of appropriate action.

ATTENTION ANIMAL EXHIBITORS
The following rules have
been moved from the Exhibitor's Agreement. By submitting an entry
form you will, in fact, be agreeing to the following rules, as well as all
other rules in the Exhibitor's Guide and rules posted in the barns fair week.)
4.
Prior to exhibition, any animal exhibited shall not have received any
substance not approved for slaughter animals by the federal Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and/
or the Shiawassee County Fair. This includes, but is not limited to diuretics,
steroids, repartitioning agents, tranquilizers and analgesics. Furthermore,
approved drugs, chemicals and feed additives cannot be used in a non-
approved(illegalforslaughteranimals)manner.If approveddrugs,chemicals
oradditiveshavebeenused,allapplicableFDAwithdrawalperiodsmusthave
expiredprior to shippingpreviously treatedmarket animals.The Fair reserves
the right to disqualify any animals (live or slaughtered) found in violation of
the Fair’s drug rules.
5.
Disqualification of an animal will result in the following: a) the animal's placings
will be voided,b) ribbons/trophies/awards will be forfeited,c) a fine equaling
the awarded premium monies will be assessed against the exhibitor, d) the
animal will be confiscated and the sale voided (if sold in either the Junior
Livestock or Small Animal Auctions), e) and the exhibitor will be barred from
exhibiting at the Shiawassee County Fair for three (3) years.The other animals
in the class will be moved up accordingly in placings.
6.
Exhibitors and their parents/guardians will indemnify, defend and hold
harmless the Fair and all of its sponsors and assisting organizations and
their employees and agents against all legal proceeding in connection with
the testing procedures, all claims of injury to the animal and any damage or
injury to any person or property caused by the animal.
7.
Any animal (marketable) requiring antibiotic treatment must be reported
to the barn superintendent, and thereafter to the fair veterinarian. The fair
veterinarian must be notified if any antibiotic therapy is instituted by any
other veterinarian, or by the owner. Failure to comply may result in action as
detailed on page 9 in the EXHIBITORS AGREEMENT.
8.
The death of any exhibiting animal on the fairgrounds must be reported
to the Fair Veterinarian immediately. The exhibitor is to notify the Barn
Superintendent,theGeneralLivestockSuperintendentortheFairVeterinarian;
if Superintendents are notified they will contact the Veterinarian.The Fair will
assume responsibility for the animal at that time.
DOGS
ALL DOGS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING HEALTH REQUIREMENTS,
WHICH ARE TO BE DOCUMENTED ON THE OFFICIAL FORM DESIGNED BY
THE DOG DEVELOPMENTAL COMMITTEE AND SIGNED BY
THE EXHIBITOR'S VETERINARIAN:
a)
All vaccines must be purchased from, and administered by, a licensed
veterinarian.
b)
Dogs must be current on vaccines for Rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella (Kennel
Cough). which must be current within 6 months of the Fair.
c)
Proof of a negative fecal check for internal parasites dated after July 1st (of
current year).
d)
Proof of a negative heartworm check after March 1st (of current year), and
currently on a preventative program or a preventative year round program
documented by their veterinarian.
e)
**NEW for 2009
- Proof must be provided to the superintendent at
check-
in Friday night;
no dogs will be allowed on the grounds without the
completed paperwork on the official form.

GOVERN THE SALE OF FOOD AND BEVERAGES
AT THE Shiawassee County FairGrounds
Copies of these rules may be obtained through the Fair Office or through the
Michigan State Department of Agriculture.
The Shiawassee County Agricultural Society management reserves to its Board of
Directors the final and absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and
arbitrarily settle all matters connected with the Fair.
It further reserves the right
to withdraw all or part of the premium offerings in all departments should
an emergency exist and circumstances demand it.
Fair book subject to corrections and/or printing errors.
Any fees charged are not refundable.
EXHIBITOR'S GUIDE CHANGE PROCESS
Suggested changes for next year's Exhibitor's Guide must
be submitted to department superintendents and/or general
superintendents prior to
OCTOBER 1st
. This includes the
nomination of new superintendents for the following year.
Only superintendents or general superintendents may
submit to the Fair Board. Change requests are submitted for
consideration at the October Fair Board meeting.
